Anne Oldenhuis, Artist, Collagist, the Netherlands

Anne Oldenhuis, is beeldend kunstenaar in Utrecht. 

Na haar docentenopleiding tekenen en textiele werkvormen (1986) werkte ze kort in het onderwijs. In Amsterdam voltooide ze een universitaire studie waarna ze werkte als communicatietrainer. 

In 2005 stopte ze met werken door terugkerende depressies.

Haar kunstenaarschap heeft zij opnieuw ontwikkeld tijdens haar herstelproces. Sinds 2018 maakt ze collages. In 2022 startte ze het Utrecht Collage Collective.

Over de techniek collage zegt ze:

“Ik knip foto’s uit boeken en tijdschriften die ik krijg of koop in kringloopwinkels.

In deze uitgeknipte stapel plaatjes liggen figuren verborgen die erop wachten om door mij ontdekt te worden. Door stukken van plaatjes uit hun context te halen en te combineren ontstaat een volledig nieuw beeld.” 

Naast het individualistische werk in haar atelier, houdt ze van verbondenheid tussen mensen. Die vindt zij in de eco-buurt waar ze woont. Gemeenschappelijkheid ervaart zij ook in de kunstenaarsgroepen waarin ze participeert: de Kersentuin kunstenaarsgroep in haar eigen buurt, het COL-LAB Den Haag e.o., en het Utrecht Collage Collective.

Anne is a visual artist from Utrecht. After her teacher training in drawing and textile forms (1986) she briefly worked in education. In Amsterdam she completed a university study after which she worked as a communication trainer.

In 2005 she stopped working due to recurring depressions.

She developed her artistic practice again during her recovery process. She has been making collages since 2018. In 2022 she started the Utrecht Collage Collective.

She says about the collage technique:

“I cut out photos from books and magazines that I get or buy in thrift stores.

Figures are hidden in this cut-out pile of pictures waiting to be discovered by me. By taking parts of pictures out of their context and combining them, a completely new image is created.”

In addition to the individualistic work in her studio, she likes connections between people. She finds them in the eco-neighborhood where she lives. She also experiences community in the artist groups in which she participates: the Kersentuin artist group in her own neighbourhood, the COL-LAB, The Great Puzzle-Collage Collective, and the Utrecht Collage Collective.
